Online Poi Lessons

This year in Kapa Haka we have have learned a lot of new waita and haka. We have not focused on the use of poi.

However, ever since I pulled the costumes out, the girls have been going crazy with their poi practice - before school, morning tea and lunch.

Obviously fire poi is not something for children. It is something to look forward to. Imagine what you would be able to do having seven or eight years experience with poi when you hit 18 and get your first set of fire poi!

As someone with a passion for poi and fire poi, I have substituted direct teaching this year with this great link I have found.

It has simple instructions along with video footage. Skip the offers of DVD's and just click the 'next' button until you see the video options.

Poi are very easy to make and make for a great summer project while hanging out with friends. (Tip: a handful of gravel placed inside the newspaper for the ball of the poi give them more weight, which makes them swing better.)

Enjoy!
Miss B.
