Jump Rope Intensive

Jump Rope
This week we have been doing skipping to prepare for Jump Rope for Heart next week. We have been using long ropes as well as learning new tricks with short individual ropes.

Topic
For our topic work, we have been doing a poster which has to show visually what we have found out from the experts who came in to talk to us about their role in a disaster. We are in groups and we discussed what should be in the picture before breaking up so that we had 1 or 2 people drawing, 2 people on captions and one person locating the scene and headquarters on the map.

Statistics
For maths this week we have been doing statistics. We are doing a statistical investagion in partners, and had to choose a question e.g. What is Room 2's favourite type of pizza? Next we asked our question to the class and drew up a tally. Now we're drawing up posters of our results. They need to have a tally chart, graph and written results.

Visit to Local Emergency Management Office

On Monday our syndicate had the chance to go into the Central Wellington Emergency Management Office and look at how they run their operations.

Our class has been running an Inquiry study to find out - 'In the event of a big earthquake in Wellington, what organisations would support the Civil Defence and what would they do?'

Specialist groups from our class interviewed experts from the following key organsiations last week:
- Police Department
- Fire Department
- St Johns Ambulance
- Defence Forces
- Wellington Regional council
- Civil Defence
- Red Cross

It was great to go into the Management Office and see firstly, that we were on the right track regarding who helps the Civil Defence and, secondly, where all the communication we have been talking to experts about actually takes place.
