Resource Request/ Swimming Day

RESOURCES

From Week Five (the week after art week) we are going to be making masks based on a character from a myth or legend. We are using the corner of a small box for the base. We need to gather a number of resources so we can build up the base, over which we will paper mache.

It would be great if you can gather and send some of the following to school with your child (and anything else you think could be useful).

For the base
Egg cartons, Cardboard tubes, Wire, Milk Containers, Paper Plates

For decoration
String/wool, Feathers, Pipe cleaners, Skewers, Straws

SWIMMING DAY - Thursday

Room Two's swiming day is Thursday. If students are unable to swim they need to bring a note from home. This will also start the week after art week.

Athletics Day

Athletics Day
On the 26th of October Years 4 - 8 had an athletics day. They had vortex, quoits, sprints, high jump and long jump. We spent three and a half hours outside and everyone in the class remembered their hats! Lots of kids in Room Two got through to the central zone. We all had a lot of fun.

Keeping Ourselves Safe
For the last two weeks, Room Two has been doing Keeping Ourselves Safe for our topic. We watched a video about a girl called Phoebe who was being teased at school and what she did about it. We had a class discusssion to talk about what to do if someone in the class was being bullied. We learnt that if someone says something mean about you that you should stand up for yourself by being assertive. We also learnt that if the bullying keeps happening we should tell a teacher.

Writing
We finished writing our first practice play. Some of the students have finished writing their second practice play! For the first practice we were focusing on using direction and narration. For the second we have been focusing on putting more adjectives and adverbs in.

It's All About Safety

In Room 2 this week we have been learning to keep ourselves safe. So far have studied the value of respect, what we should do if we get lost and internet saftey. To help us with our topic we have been watching a DVD called Bryan and Bobby.
Check out their website http://www.bryanandbobby.co.nz/
We'll be studying other safety topics along the term.

For P.E this term we're learning hockey skills out on the court and we're getting pretty good.

The school has now started gardening around the back of Room's One, Two, Three and Four. We have planted flowers and vegetables.

First Week Back

ART
For art we have been assessing the posters that we made last term for other classes telling them what to do in an earthquake. Miss B. wanted us to do the pictures in cartoon form. We worked in groups of three. It was good for our art skills.

MYTHS AND LEGENDS
We have been learning about myths and legends. We have a reading log to take home and we have to choose a myth or legend on a website. Then we have to write in our log we write the title, author and message. On Friday we bring the log to school. We think this is good if you find a myth or legend with a clear message.

FRACTIONS
Last week we also been reviewed our fractions, decimals and percentages. It was been good to see what we have learnt.

Myths and Legends Log (Home)

One of the topics we are focusing on during Term Four is the study of different Myths and Legends from around the globe.

In addition to other work related to the topic, the students will be completing home and school Literacy Logs. At school the students will select a picture book to study each friday. At home, the students will need to view a story online each week and write briefly about it in their home log.

Here are the links. Some of the stories are told orally and so you will need to check the volume levels when playing a story.

These two websites have dynamic graphics and so may require broadband to work successfully. Mythic Journeys may require you to temporarily allow pop ups (kids, check with your parents before you do and remember that we never click on any windows that pop up!)
