Some Designs

We have helped the Rotary group that organise the Pioneer For Health programme come up with a new name for it (Healthy Heroes, c/o Kara during a brainstorm) and have been thinking of ideas for the design of the logo that will go with the launch. Here come some images we have created (we are imagining five heroes for each of the areas in the programme; nutrition, sleep, mental, physical activity and helping others.)

(These images are for Chris, our contact at the Rotary. Enjoy!)

Three Way Conferences, Enviroschool Arguments and more!

This week -

We got a day off school! (Queens Birthday.)

Our Three Way Conferences began. These involve the student as well as the parent and teacher. Theresa helped us prepare for it by getting us to write down our goals and our accomplishments.

Our sculptures (which you may remember from last week) are now completely dried and ready for painting.

We have Current Events from nearly every continent and have almost reached our goal. Soon we will be tested on our geographical knowledge (locating the places that were reported on).

Nearly everyone has finished writing their arguments about Enviroschools and many are already publishing them.

For our Inquiry this term our Big Question is, 'How has the river Nile been a river of life over time?' We have come up with our Question Categories, have noted our preference of category to research and Theresa has put us into our research groups. (By Theresa.) We are now ready to write our Action Questions in our groups.

We are starting our Art topic for the term, starting with learning to draw the human body. On Friday Theresa got Amira's big sister to come in and draw with us (she is an illustrator). From there we will design a figure in a dance pose and eventually turn this into a 3-D art piece.

On Thursday, we saw a performance in the hall called Ready Steady, Go! which was very funny.

Theresa's French friend Cederic (who helped out with the cross country) made a brief guest appearance on Friday before lunch and we got to sing him happy birthday as he sat in the 'hot seat.'

Reminders:
Interzone is happening on Tuesday next week. Jackson, Asia and Anna from our class are going.

Make sure you get your argument published.

The New Dowse, Swan Lake and Soccer

What a happy bunch!

The New Dowse

On Monday the 28th of May we went to the new Dowse where a guy name Jim Cooper was displaying these freaky deaky clay people. One of our favourite works was the mimic of the Sgt Peppers album cover (The Beatles). At the Dowse we also made our own freaky clay things. After we finished there we went to the Lower Hutt Memorial Library and had a look behind the scenes at how the process books and also the reference room where adults study.

Drawing Jim's clay figures upside down
like he does when he is sketching a plan of one.

Swan Lake

On Thursday the 31st of May we went to see Swam Lake at the St James Theatre. Most people thought it was good other than those who said it wasn't really their kind of thing.

Soccer

On Wednesday 30th of May, Thorndon School had a soccer tournament. It was rough, it was hard, but two teams in the Middle and Senior School made it though to the finals. After that the winner of each played each other. Unfortunately (unlike the swimming sports relay) the seniors bet us (Renata, Asia, Kara, Hannah, Aidan and Jessica).
